About Me

Writing by the pool

I set off in January this year with my boyfriend John, five dresses, an excessive amount of hand sanitizer and the ambition to travel and experience living abroad. So far, we have travelled round Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia and Vietnam. Currently teaching English in Hanoi, I still can’t quite believe we have FINALLY made this trip happen. Oh, and the hand sanitizer has been invaluable.

This blog is a small collection of my many thoughts, photographs, things I love about Vietnam and things I miss about home.

Hi Siobhan. Thanks very much for the recent visit to (and follow of) my blog. It had the happy consequence of leading me here and I’ve enjoyed perusing some of your recent postings. I just finished reading your entry about your grandmother; I found it poignant and well-written and I look forward to experiencing more.

    Hi Siobhan,
I have done a TESOL course and sort of got locked into a Vietnam recruiter. I have been offered a job in Cau Mau, an industrial city in southern Vietnam. The pay is $1080 per month, accommodation for 1 month only, no insurance and no materials for teaching. I have a 4 year degree and a post graduate cert in tertiary teaching. When I queried the location etc I have been told that it is my age: 55 years old. It doesn’t look promising – there is little appropriate accommodation and is comparatively difficult to get to HCMC. Can you suggest any further options.

    thanks Helen
